Week 4 continues...

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen is definitely one of my favourite books so when thinking of a text to make into a Wordle, it immediately came to mind! I went to Project Gutenburg to find the text of the first 8 chapters.

I think it turned out very pretty :)

I also really enjoy the screen versions, from the Colin Firth BBC miniseries, to the 2005 Keira Knightley movie, to the modern adaptation, The Lizzie Bennett Diaries.

Week 4 - Thoughts of Spring

Image by gen cartalla, via Flickr

I am condensing a few weeks into one day here, but with a big storm being forecast for tomorrow, I am dreaming about spring. I found this beautiful photo of a flower (no idea what kind, I'm not a gardener) that is brightening up my evening!

I found this photo on Flickr and they have good explanations of Creative Commons and make it easy to search by type of license.

Week 3 - Social Reading

Oh social reading... I resisted for a long time, but I have actually had a GoodReads account for a while. I tend to use it off and on. I think one of my favourite features is the monthly newsletter telling me about new books by my favourite authors. And suggestions based on books I've read before... It just makes it so easy to add many more books to my "To Read" list - the neverending one :) I also enjoy using it on my iPad so I don't have to log into it, I just tap on it and it opens! Convenient!

I hadn't logged into my Vision account in a while (who wants to see all their fines in bold red text??) but I liked that I was already getting suggestions of titles that are available. I updated a list I had and I did make comments about a book I had read. I think I prefer to just give a number of stars to a book rather than come up with comments - I don't know why I find that so hard, but I do!

Week 2 - Twitter

I have been on Twitter for quite a while now, but I am terrible at actually tweeting things. I tend to use it as an information gathering source. I follow a lot of libraries, book websites and author twitter feeds to keep up-to-date on the library world.

I really enjoy following some of my favourite authors - I love the peek into their writing process, how their books get published, and the silly things they can say. One of my alltime favourites is Maureen Johnson, @maureenjohnson.

1,2,3... Go!

So I have jumped on the bandwagon a little late... I think it's already week 5 and I am just starting!! I am hoping I can catch up quickly :)

Unimaginative blog title aside, I am looking forward to learning some new tips and tricks. I am anticipating the "Pinterest thing" as I already consider myself an expert in that area :)

I am a librarian living and working in Fredericton - many of you know me as Sarah, Regional Director of the York Region. I like reading, cooking & baking, travelling, skating & skiing, watching movies and hanging out with friends.

I have used Blogger before to create a blog for a trip I took in 2012: http://gseindia2012.blogspot.ca/ It hasn't been updated, but was a fun start to blogging.

Here we go... Things 1, 2 and 3 down!
